Gold & silver this week: Gold fell 4.47% this week and 6.76% over the past month, to $3,995 an ounce. Rates after inflation (what savings really earn) and the US dollar both dipped slightly, which usually helps gold, so those signals pointed the opposite way from its drop. We don't have silver figures this week, so we can't say how it moved.
What usually moves gold & silver (change over the past week)
Interest rates after inflation: 2.66% โผ 0.08 pts (lower rates tend to help gold)
US dollar strength: โผ 0.07% (a weaker dollar tends to help gold)

Bitcoin: Bitcoin slipped 2.25% this week to $80,029, and it is down 5.20% over the past month. That is a smaller weekly drop than gold's, though both ended the week lower.

๐๏ธ Data centers become a hot voting issue
Data centers are huge buildings full of computers that run AI and the internet. Communities across the US are pushing back on how fast they're being built, and the construction work and costs have become a big issue in many races for Congress.
๐ก If a data center is planned near you, its building work and costs could become part of local debates and votes.

๐ป New market tracks AI chip rental prices
Injective, a platform built on a blockchain (a shared online record), launched a market tied to the cost of renting five Nvidia GPUs. GPUs are computer chips that power AI. People can trade on price changes using borrowed money, or use the market to protect against swings in AI computing costs.
๐ก Most people won't use this, but it shows the cost of renting AI computing power is now something others want to trade on or protect against.

๐ Anthropic files papers to sell shares publicly
Anthropic, an AI company, has filed a long document with the SEC, the US agency that oversees investing. The document, over 300 pages, is part of its plan for an IPO (the first time a company sells shares to the public), and covers executive pay, how it plans to spend the IPO money, and risks to its business.
๐ก Filings like this are one way the public gets a look at how a big AI company makes plans, spends money and sees its risks.

What Does a 680 Credit Score Mean?
A credit score is a three-digit number that shows lenders how well you've handled loans and credit cards. Think of it as a report card you never got to study for. A new article from Achieve looks at where a 680 lands.
๐ก If you plan to borrow for a car, home or credit card, your score can affect whether you're approved and how much interest you pay.

Mortgage Rates Above 7% May Stick Around
Home loan rates are above 7%, and economists now call that the "new normal." Two reasons: prices are still rising fast, and lenders compete with other borrowers for investors' money. On a $300,000 home loan, 7% means roughly $2,000 a month before taxes and insurance.
๐ก If you're buying a home or want to refinance (swap your mortgage for a new one), expect higher monthly payments than a few years ago.

Student Loan Defaults Are Rising Fast
More people are falling behind on student loans, which is called "default." Some could face wage garnishment, meaning the government takes part of their paycheck to repay the debt. With midterm elections coming, the story is turning into a bigger money and voting issue.
๐ก If you have student loans, check your payment status now, because missed payments can eventually reach your paycheck.

Retirees Look Beyond Bonds for Income
A podcast interview with Matt Kaufman of Calamos, an investment firm, covers ways to generate income in retirement besides bonds. A bond is a loan you make to a company or government in exchange for regular interest payments. This is one firm's view, not advice.
๐ก If you're planning for retirement, it helps to know that income can come from more than one source, and that guests often talk about what their own firms sell.

Rising Costs Top Voters' Worries
Ahead of Election Day, affordability is still a top concern for many voters. Families point to housing, groceries, child care and health care. Somehow the grocery bill is the one thing everyone agrees on.
๐ก If your budget feels stretched in these areas, you're far from alone, and it's shaping what people want from candidates.
๐ฐ Money Move of the Day
Check Your Credit Report for Mistakes
Go to AnnualCreditReport.com, the official free site, and open your credit report (your history with loans and cards). Look for accounts you don't recognize or late payments that aren't true. Lenders use your credit score to set the rate you pay, so fixing a mistake could help.
Easy
๐ข One Number
$2,000 a month
Rough monthly payment on a $300,000 home loan at 7%
That payment covers only the loan, not taxes or insurance, so a 7% mortgage rate can take a big bite out of a household budget.
That's your five minutes. Go make your money work as hard as you do. ๐ช
